Frequently Asked Questions

Goals and Targets

  • Yes, go to your Profile > Goal and Calorie Targets to customize it.

You choose between three goals: lose weight, build muscle and keep fit.

Lose weight goal comes with a calorie deficit recommendation.

Build muscle goal comes with a calorie surplus recommendation.

Keep fit goal comes with a calorie maintenance recommendation.

All calorie recommendations can be adjusted.

  • Yes, go to your Profile > Goal and Calorie Target to change it.

You can set any calorie target you like.

Generally we recommend not to go below 1,200 calories a day for female and not below 1,500 calories a day for male.

We also do not recommend to have more than a 500 calorie deficit a day.

  • Yes, go to Profile > Diet and Macro Ratios to customize it.

The selected Diet Preference will come with a default Macro Ratio, but the ratios can be adjusted to your preference.

  • Tell Welling your weight in the chat to add a weight log entry.

You can tap on the log entry to edit it.

Go to the Weight menu to see all entries and to delete entries.

  • We recommend to record your weight every day because your weight will fluctuate due to water retention, exercise, what you've eaten, etc.

Best is to record it every day at the same time and look at the average over a week.

The best time to weigh yourself is in the morning after you went to the bathroom and before you eat something.

  • You can indicate allergies, intolerance and dietary restrictions and preferences in Profile > Allergies and Restrictions.

  • You can indicate diet requirements in Profile > Allergies and Restrictions.

You can indicate dietary restrictions, specific foods you don't like or can't eat and anything else that you would like Welling to know.

For example, dietary guidance from other nutrition consultations or health test reports.

Tracking Food

  • Tell Welling what you ate in the chat and Welling will estimate the calories and macros and create a food log entry.

The more accurate you can be the better.

    For example:
"I ate two eggs, 2 slices of sourdough, 3 tbsp of peanut butter and a glass of low fat milk"

You can directly log calories and macros for a food as well.

"I had 150g of chicken breast and 200 cals of mashed potato"

  • Whenever you log a food, you can tell Welling the specific date as well.

Another method is to go to Progress > Calories and scroll to the specific date. There you can add food for the specific meal.

  • There are a few reasons why the calorie estimation are different than you expected.

    1. Welling estimates a different type of food or portion size than you meant.

    2. Welling does not have this specific branded food in the database. In this case Welling makes an estimation based on a similar food.

    3. Welling AI model made a mistake. Due to the nature of AI, there are times where it does not reply with accurate information. Thus we always to double check information when you suspect it's inaccurate.

In all cases, you can tap into the food log entry and adjust to the desired portion, calorie and macros.

  • You can tap into the food log entry and adjust portion, calorie and macro values for each food inside that entry.

You can also delete the entire entry by tapping on the Delete button.

You can also adjust food log entries from different days by going to Progress > Calories. Scroll to the date you want to adjust and tap on the meals to see and adjust all the food entries.

  • You can tap into the food log entry and set the meal time. You can choose between Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snack.

Welling will set a meal to its best abilities depending on the time logged and the type of food.

  • Long press on a food log entry to set it as a Favorite.

You will be asked to set a name for the Favorite.

Favorites are reachable in the custom keyboard by tapping on the + button next to the camera button.

You can go to Profile > Favorites to adjust or delete Favorites.

  • Tap on the camera icon next to the chat field.

Take a photo or select a one from your photo album.

You can set the meal time and optionally add additional details.

You can log with photos of food and nutrition labels.

  • Take a clear photo of the nutrition label and Welling will log a standard serving size that is stated on the label.

You can put additional details in the photo caption. For example, say if you had less or more than one serving.

Please be mindful that the photo of the label needs to be clear. It works best if no other parts of the packaging are included other than the nutrition label.

Tracking Activity

  • Tell Welling the activity and duration in the chat and Welling will make an estimate of the burned calories and create an activity log entry.

You can also tell Welling the burned calories directly. For example if you have tracked it on a separate activity tracker.

  • The burned calorie from activities are estimated based on your body data and the type and duration of activity.

Each time you track an activity with Welling, it makes a new estimation depending on all context. This means that logging the same activity and duration could lead to different results.

Please be mindful that activity trackers generally are not considered to provide an accurate display of burned calories.

  • You can tap into the activity log entry and adjust the burned calories.

Here you can also Delete the entry.

Viewing Data

  • Go to Progress > Calories and set to the week view by tapping on the W in the top-right view setting.

You can also tap on Progress > Average Deficit to see the Weekly calorie view.

  • By default your burned calories tracked from activity logs are added to your total calorie budget for the day.

You can change this by going to Profile > Goal and Calorie Targets

Please by mindful that estimated burned calories from activity are usually overestimated. If you want to lose weight and did a low to moderate intensity activity, we do not recommend you to eat back the calories.

  • The average calorie deficit is calculated by looking at all the calorie deficits from that week and taking the average from that.

Only days where you have logged food or activity will be taken into the calculation.
